I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLE. I am having problems with the headlights. They are the automatic type. Sometimes they come on, sometimes they dont. When they decide that they dont want to come on, they will not turn on manually either. I have no problems with the high beams, or the park lights, just the daytime running lights and the head lights.

Hey Nate,
No technician here, but I have a 98 Sonoma and there is a small light sensor on the passenger side dash. Looks like a small nipple. If somehow you accidently covered it or it is dirty, this could be causing the problem. Probably too simple a fix but might be worth checking.

Try this web site http://www.chevytalk.com/ good information there.

I am not sure if the light module is connected or part of the body control module. I would agree with Ralphy clean the dashboard sensor.

Bob

I have eliminated the dash sensor because when this happens, the lights will not come on with the headlight switch either.

It sounds like your Daytime Running Lamp diode is faulty or connector loose
It is located on your brake pedal the bracket that holds the brake pedal rightside close to where pedal pivots

I would guess the DRL relay or lighting control module is acting up. I hate automatic headlights my wifes car messes up sometimes while decelerating they will actually pulse almost like a strobe and the dealer cant fix it.

A couple of fast tests
set your parking brake
then to key to run
check and see if LO BEAMS ON ----off checks good
Next release parking brake dash brake light goes out ---is good
next turn key to run and apply parking brake
check to see if LO BEAMS OFF----on checks good
now if none of the above check out good you may have a short or bad Module
Diode TEST
release parking brake dash light goes out
disconnect diode connector on brake pedal bracket
turn key to run
connect test light to TERM"A"[dark blue wire] to ground
doesn't light check for shorts in the wire to the module [dark blue] module is behind R/S kick panel
no shorts replace module
IF IT LIGHTS check for bad connection at module or shorts in tan wire, tan wire runs to dimmer switch and headlights ,if you find no shorts replace diode
AFTER ALL THIS YOU MIGHT BE LUCKEY IF NOT let me know more things to check even headlight switch and grounds Also let me know when it happens in daylight or in darkness
