I am going to mount a outboard on a 21 ft' starcraft, Inboard outboard is gone, After i cover hole and brace transom from the inside ,
Build a bracket to mount outboard on, There won't be enough clearance to tip motor up,I want to keep motor as close to transom as possiable to lesson stress, I'm thinking of building the
bracket so that the motor mount half will slide
straight up and down , So that motor will lift out
of water,I a'm thinking of using air shocks with
a long travel to raise motor straight up,I will also have a locking device to keep motor in place
when down,A small compressor and air tank should
lift motor,I think. Now i'm looking for ideas that
anyone may have to assist in this undertaking
Thanks River Run

Why go thru all the trial and error? And there will be ERRORS. Buy a stainless transom that will always have a good resale value. Your on the ocean so put on twin outboards and have a extra to get you home if one quits.

Much cheaper solution is one big outboard and 25 HP proped for pushing and the fuel consumption will be about 25% less + 1-200 HP is faster than 2-100 HP and LOTS less weight

Forgot to add..use DUAL motor ALUMINUM transom bracket/platform. Less weight, very strong, stepping platform, distributes weight across entire transom versus single mount, usually are of box type construction and add flotation to rear of boat and you have a place to hang the 25 HP without using a seperate swing down bracket. Solves many problems with a single installation.........
