Going from one 12 gallon tank to two.

I currently have 1 topside 12 gallon tank. This never bothered me on my normal lake which is very very small. We would go skiing, tubing, fishing, etc for the day and by the end of they day I'd be really low on gas, but had never ran out.

I finally got my trailer in good shape and took the boat to Lake Eufaula this week. We had a BLAST! Unfortunately on my way to the marina, I ran out of gas! Thankfully I keep a 2 gallon gas tank full as a backup on the boat. I made it to the marina and filled up. The next day I blasted around for a while and just explored a lot of the lake and on the way back to my dock I ran out right before I got to the dock. My 2 gallon can again to the rescue.

Anyways, long story short, 12 gallons just isn't quite cutting it for an all day outing on a big lake. I want to add a 2nd 12 gallon tank, is there anything special to adding the 2nd tank other than putting a "T" in the line?

a valve to switch tanks so you dont run out of both tanks at the same time.

I'm not necesarrily opposed to running out of both, but I could see it being a problem if one tank happened to run out before the other?

I run a 12 gallon above deck tank and it's O.K. for normal day at the lake, for longer trips I use one or two extra 6 gallon jerry cans in back of boat, works fine that way. Maybe you've got room for one 18 gallon tank to solve your problem? Moeller makes every size and shape...check them out!

I found the fitting I need. I think 2 12 gallons are going to work best for my boat's current configuration. The one 12 Fits perfectly on the left side of the boat and another 12 the exact same size would be perfect on the other side.

Only picture I could find of my current setup. I'll take another one this afternoon.

Cool problem solved, I'm sure you'll find a matching one on Moeller's site. I personally like the switch set up to go from tank one to tank 2, but it's up to you. Do you have an indash gas gauge?

No indash gauges at all right now. I want to add a tachometer, but I'm running out of play money at the moment, so it's going to have to wait a few months as well. I think top priority is going to a new gas tank and possibly marine vinyl for the floor.

I am going to use the valve/switch to switch from tank 1 to tank 2.

I have (2) 13 Gal tanks in my boat & switch between the 2 using this selector valve.

Its not the best picture, but its the valve behind the wires. Works great:
