going thru powerpacks

I have an early 80's 3 cyl 70hp evinrude I am on my 3rd Powerpack in a year..... What would cause this problem?

Have you checked the charge coil output to power pack at full throttle. Then clean all powerpack and coil grounds and verify with meter.

Also check to see if you are using a Marine Deep cycle battery which tight, clean connections.<br /><br />Also check your rectifier to see if its charging the battery.<br /><br />You must sustain 12.6 volts all the time.<br /><br />TMD

I lost a power pack from heat. The water pump wasn't working and was running to hot 165+* should be around 140+ -* and they said that heated the pack up especially where it sits on my 150 evinrude. The tell tail stream was as strong as ever but the pump was wore out (sand I think)and missing a o ring to seal it up. So test the pump. check the temp.Bill
