Hello IBOATS forum;
Hope somebody can help me determine if I am getting a good buy or am being sold a "black hole" piece of scrap.:confused:
I am in a verbal agreement to purchase a 16 ft 1984 Glastron (model # ?)open bow w a 90HP evinrude outboard. Price- They wanted $1900 I gave $1500- comes with trailer and current registration.
What should I look for besides the obvious? I dont think I am going to have an opportunity to do a compression check on the Outboard- but visually it looks in decent shape. Should I have him "fire it-up " with al garden hose and earmuffs or just take it to shop to have them service it change out the oil and give everything a look over?
Mainly boat will be for me and my 2 boys (10 & 14) to fish and ski/innertube on. I like the compact nature of the boat.
It has not been stored inside in recent years- though they did have a cover on it.
What should I look at to see if the hull / floorboards have rottiney havent g or damage.?
The sellers say it has been ~ 1 year since last on the water and it runs "like a champ".
My take- boat is definitely entry level and pretty cheap. The trailer alone is decent and worth ~ 500-800. So long as the Outboard is in decent shape and I can do any floorboard repairs-internal fixes- then I can get my money's worth.
Mind you I am a novice when it comes to boating and outboard maintenance and repair. - so I am not planning on becoming ace Outboard mechanic whiz.

Any advice ? Any feedback anyone cangive me before cash and title exchange hands ?
