I want to learn how to wakeboard. Have a buddy that wants to sell me a wakeboard. It is a Ronix Vault Wakeboard 2011, brand new, never used. He will sell it to me for $250 with bindings. Is that a good price and is it a good board to learn on?

I want to learn how to wakeboard. Have a buddy that wants to sell me a wakeboard. It is a Ronix Vault Wakeboard 2011, brand new, never used. He will sell it to me for $250 with bindings. Is that a good price and is it a good board to learn on?

What model, what's your size, what's the length of the board he's selling, do the bindings fit? To give you an idea of size, I'm 205 lbs and 6'4" and I ride a 143. The price is a good deal but you have to be sure that board will work for you or you will not get the best experience.
Rocker type is going to be the biggest defining point IMO. Below is guidance from a sporting goods website.....

The amount of rocker describes a wakeboard's bottom profile using the angles where the board curves at either end. Wakeboard rockers have three major categories: continuous, continuous/progressive and three-stage.

Continuous rocker offers predictable performance with a smooth curve from tip to tail. It accelerates smoothly and generates a comfortable pop off the wake.
Continuous/progressive rockers are have a continuous rocker through the belly and then become gradually more angled around the area under the feet.
Three-stage rockers are also designed for enhanced acceleration and an agressive lift off the wake. They typically have a significant flat spot in the middle of the board and then kink or curve abruptly under the feet and flatten out off the tip and tail.

A higher rocker--a more rounded bottom-- makes it easier to land jumps
A lower rocker--a flatter bottom-- is easier to control when going straight and accelerates better

Find out what type his board is and go from there. Its not to say that you won't be able to get up on a more advanced board but its just something to consider.

I bought my first wakeboard for around $125 bindings and all, It didnt look cool by any means but it was a great board to learn on! Buy something less expensive and save up for the nice one once you know its the one that you want!

I am 6'4" and 180 lbs. He said he thought the board is a 139. Bindings are size 8-12 and i wear 11.5. Not sure what the model number is but here is a link to the same board.

Knowing that, would this board be good for me? Thanks for info and help.

6'4" and 180 !?!?! Maybe I'm getting fat!:D That's the shortest board you'd want to ride and for the price, he doesn't seem to be doing you any huge favors. IMO, that's a medium to advanced board and although it will work just fine, you could get a good used board for less (ebay, craigslist, etc), maybe a 140 or 141 in length and ride it awhile to find out if you like wakeboarding. However, if he'd take $200 I'd go for it.

You're not fat just big boned :D I had the same thought about getting it for $200. I really think I can get it for that if I decide to. Just going to wait a little longer to make sure it's what I want.

That's what my wife says!
My only hesitation would be the length. Look around on craigslist and ebay, or playitagain sports if you have those in your area and see what's available. If nothing comes close, I think you have your answer. The board itself seems like a good one
