My dad just picked up a Montgomery Ward Sea King 5HP Model CED-50506B,
SN 28X-298016.

The cool thing about this is that it had NEVER BEEN USED... we dont know what year it is or anything about it! All we know is that the price we paid for it was right! $75!!!! Good deal? Bad deal? NO clue... but its a cool engine!

It has no manual and we were wondering where we could get one. Also... what year is it? How do you guys find that information? Any information about this little motor would be great! Is it worth anything since it is in Brand New condition?

Thanks guys!

Re: Good Deal or Bad Deal?

Your motor was made in 1982 (reverse the 28 in the serial number). It was made by Eska (the CED in the model number). There were tons of Eskas made and sold through Wards and Sears and others. They are a cheap contraption consisting of a Tecumseh lawn mower engine adapted to an outboard lower unit. Like a lawn mower, they are noisy, vibrate, hot and stinky. But they sold well because they were so cheap and the easy credit offered through Sears and Wards.

They are a dime a dozen in normal condition. However, yours will be worth more because it is new. Needless to say, that will disappear as soon as you use it.
