So i found this boat on craigslist and talked the guy down to 500. He says it has a blown headgasket. He also says its the 110hp, where would i find a head gasket at also? Do you guys think 500 for a boat that doesnt currently rtun is too pricey?

Now if this motor is completely shot, how much am i looking at for a rebuild? THanks,
Doug

Re: Good deal?

That looks like a project boat, not one you'll have on the water this year. Sole, stringers, transom are probably rotten, boat probably leaks, steering is probably stiff, shifting probably not that great, probably starts like crap, runs rough, if at all, and needs a full tune-up at minimum, assuming the head gasket is the only problem. Since there's no way to tell if the block is cracked or the drive works, it should be a "come get it" price.

It should be free! It's ancient and there's no telling whats wrong with the engine.

Agree!!! Everyone likes to think their problem is due to a blown head gasket, since it is the easiest thing to fix. It could be a cracked block/head, and there is a good chance it has rotten stringers, deck and transom. Save a little more cash and buy one in better shape. This boat will cost you lots in repairs and the cheaper option is just to get a better boat.

Have a great day

Re: Good deal?

head gaskets are not real expensive, but there is a possibility there is a leak in the exhaust manifold. appears about the same problem/effects, but much different solution. You can find almost every part and price you would need here on iboats.

new motors get expensive, but it is all the other parts that become really expensive, outdrives, exhaust systems, starters, replacing transoms etc.

if it was running well, you could make a better call. Someone here said, the most expensive thing you can get is a free boat :)

hey, but if you are willing to get your hands dirty... might be fun... only you can make the call.

was it fresh water only, or did he run it in salt/brackish water? salt is a LOT harder on them then fresh.
