Good engine?

Are the 60-70's Johnson super sea horse engines good? What were their problems? Were they somewhat fuel "efficent" Trying to decide which engine to put on 16' boat. 1960 evinrude starflite 2, or johnson super sea horse. 60's or 70's. All replies are welcome.

more info on the engines them selves hp. none were efficent, but good engines.

The V4s from the 60s lapped up the gas like they were gonna quit making it. At idle some burned/purged overboard half of what it took to run at WOT. Added to that were quirky chokes, tiny little props, and the electic shift lower units. In 1969 there was a complete redesign of the V4, which was used until about 1998.
