Can you add a octane boost to old fuel to give it some life back? I'm getting ready to drain my fuel tank that has been sitting for 2+ years. The fuel gauge say's 1/4 tank but I dont know if that gauge is right. Anyways I might be looking at about 15 something gallons of gas. I'd like to be able to put the gas back in the boat just to get it gone. I was thinking 5 old gals. to 40 gals of new fuel. Thoughts???

Old fuel is old fuel, and with today's alcohol content, its even worse. As far as burning it, you might get away with burning a quart or two per tank but any more than that would be really taking a chance. It all depends how bad it has degraded over time.
I just pumped out 60 gallons that was sitting since March of this year that won't run in anything.
It may only be good for use in the lawn mower or other land based yard equipment. I don't think I'd want to chance it out on the water.

Yep, Thanks for that. I didn't want to use it out on the water or my truck either but it's going to need to get gone. Don't know if my small town would have a recycle program for this or not...

Just put a little at a time into your cars and burn it up, maybe 5 gallons at a time. Your cars not going to notice it. I had some old two cycle gas from my boat I ran through my truck. No problems.

When you fill it up again, look for "Conventional gas" or gas without ethanol in it. Ethanol attracts moisture and degrades seals and your tank. Marine gas doses not have ethanol in it. I also found that Hess gas stations don't have ethanol in it either.

Good luck

In my book, there's nothing "good" about "old" fuel. Find alternative uses for it like stated for lawn mower or other devices that won't present an unsafe, stranded situation. I wouldn't even put in through your car, however little at a time. Varnish and other contaminants are still just that, however diluted they may be in your tank. Fuel injectors are a finicky and fickle about fuel.

Lawn mowers and other carburated engines around the house can take a little abuse. I am a testimant to how my Briggs and Straton engine takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

If in doubt throw it out
One issue by using it in any equipment makes it not worth it.
