Good product for removing rust on engine block?

As I continue on with my painting project of my Mercruiser 260 engine, I have noticed some rusty areas that are not easily gotten to for wire brushing. Is there a product that sprays or brushes on that will get rid of the rust? I am using Dupli-Color paint with a ceramic additive high temp (500 degrees) primer and paint on the engine parts and want to be sure that I remove all of the rust before steam cleaning and priming and painting. Most of the rust seems to be underneath the exhaust manifold area on the block itself. The manifolds have been removed, sandblasted and painted along with the risers.

A small hand-held sand/media blaster comes to mind...folks use soda, sand, walnut shells, etc....someone who does this for a living might be willing to give you some guidance on required equipment, media, procedures, etc....heck, maybe you could even Rent a unit!....good luck!...

Thank you, but I don't have the luxury of that option here in S.E. Alaska. Living on an island with a population of around 8000 really limits my choices.

Muratic acid or naval jelly, just be sure to flush the area with water afterwards and dry it promptly.

If you have auto parts store or body shop in that area they may have rust converter. You brush or spray on let it sit and it will kill the rust and convert it to a black color that is paintable. If no one carries it on the island . You should be able to order online from Rustbullet.com this is a hi end product and is used in marine applications Has a 10 year guarantee also i believe
