I have been looking for a good quick connect plug for my trolling motor for 6 gauge wire. I know Minn Kota makes one, but it seemed to be a little wimpy. After searching these forums I could not find a better solution, so I thought I would post this for people who search the forum in the future.

The one I found is made by Warn for heavy duty cable winches on trucks.
65707 Warn Works Quick Connect Plugs - 175 amps - about $30.00

It still hasn't been long-term tested on saltwater, but I am very pleased so far.

Re: Good Trolling Motor Plug found

Recently, I was looking at a used boat where the owner had used typical US 110 Volt wall outlets and plugs to wire the entire boat. All 12 volt equipment, just wired with 110 volt connectors. Incidentally, 110 volt wall outlet sockets are rated for at most 15 amps, not enough for a trolling motor, besides the risk of someone pluging the troller or whatever into a wall outlet.

You are dealing with AC vs DC which so the comparison is not 1:1. Take a look at the size of the terminals on a 115 AC plug compared to 6 gauge wire. They get pretty close but in that regard a 15A outlet is a tad small. Step up to a 20 or 30 A twist lock however, and you have very large terminals that very capable of handling a troller and the receptacle and plug both accept 6 gauge wire. My 55# Minnkota PD is powered from a L5-20 twist lock and works fine. Take a look at the twist lock connectors on many boats and you will see the same connector.
