Got an old analog tv laying around? They make a great tornado warning device, even better than a weather radio. Just put a set of rabbit ears on it and turn it to a vhf channel (8 is a good choice) turn the contrast to maximum and then turn the brightness down till screen goes black. Every time there is a lightning strike the screen will turn white. Since the vortex of a tornado creates continuous lightning the the tv will turn white and stay white if a tornado is close by and THEN it is time to take cover.

Not with an analog TV.... all you get is a white screen there is nothing being broadcast anymore. This works good in conjunction with a weather radio or the news.....After a weather alert use the old tv to alert you to imminent danger.

Pets work better. When they start to lose their mind and run around panicking (more than normal if it's a border collie) it's time to duck and cover.

interesting idea though.

I sold my old TV's while they still worked. Here at work people will pay $25 or so for a working CRT tv. Have to pay $30 to legally dispose of them, or more. I had to shuck out almost $60 when my 36" tank crapped out. That was me hauling it's 150 pound carcass to a recycler. They wanted twice that to pick it up curbside.

HA! A Border Collie is the best weather detector!!! Mine won't let me sleep through a thunder storm, she will whine and howl until I get up.
