I am somewhat new to boating. What are some good ways to clean the interior carpet? Can I just scrub it with soapy water and rinse?

Just did mine, I take the garden hose and soak the carpet then put some dishwashing liquid on it and scrub it then suck it up with a shop vac, soak it and again and resuck, gets it pretty clean.

I did one section at a time instead of the whole boat.

Soaking the carpet down with water is not a good idea if u have a plywood deck. I used TUFFStuff to clean my carpet.

Most boats have a water proof deck under the carpet, and will drain easily. Boat carpets are usually polypropolene, which is real tough. Use a cleaner that is appropriate to the stain. I one spilled several gallons of 2 cycle fuel mix on a carpet. I used Castrol Super clean and got it all out.

Boats get drenched in a rain storm so a thorough carpet cleaning will not damage the wood decking. Leave the boat in the sun with the bow high so it can drain and dry thoroughly.

With all the carpet cleaners on the market that don't use water, there's no need to soak down your carpet. If decks are waterproof, why are there hundreds of threads on here about plywood deck replacement due to rot? Hey, it's your boat, but I'll refrain from soaking down mine to clean it.

Resolve works great. Woolite works great too and smells better.

I have used Woolite with good success.

At the house we use Peroxide to get some of the dogs stains out. Seems to work well just wetting the area, wiping it down and then a quick steam clean.

I plan to tackle the boat carpet sometime in the near future. Once I do I will document and recommend whatever seems to work best.

Floors and other wood parts rot from neglect and prolonged exposure to moisture. If its in good shape. a good soap & water scrub then air/sun drying will do no harm. It is a boat after all, made with marine grade plywood. Unless of course its been replaced with untreated stuff. Even then, keeping it dry after use will make it last considerably longer.

It's not the water that rots wood it's the mold that forms on the wet wood. No problem getting things wet as long as they dry.
