Re: goodyear seabee
The impeller, properly called a "rotor" is behind the propeller. Grease leaking out of the gearcase makes the rubber swell up and then it won't work. The rotor should be a close fit on the eccentric in the center and the outer diameter should just touch the housing at some point. Except for where it is touching, there should be a space. As the shaft and eccentric rotates, the space progresses from the intake side to the outlet side, then disappears. As it dispappears, water that was trapped in the space is forced up through the water tube. Then it starts the cycle all over again.
Early models had holes in the propeller to force feed the pump. Ours has the propeller a tad larger than the gearcase, forming a scoop to force water into the pump from forward motion of the motor through the water.
