Okay, Just some notes from getting the old 1250 Merc outboard running and some help needed.
1. Changed plugs, oil, and set mixture at 40-1 as motor had not been run in awhile. Also
Put a can of sea foam in.
2.Installed linkages for shift and throttle. I believe they are correct per manual no problems there.
3. Carefully hooked up wiring and was ready to GO!

Results so far,
1.Motor started up right away! Good sign. Idle was high so I adjusted the barrel on throttle and got it down. Seems to idle smooth.
2.Shift from forward to reverse and back seems good.
3.water coming out pee-hole in normal looking fashion so impeller looks ok even after sitting. Still an going to replace though for safety.

Questions,
1. On moving throttle out of 12oclock nueteral position I do not get any RPM increase until accelerator handle is about in the 930 position. IS that normal. It does go into forward gear but my old motor would start increase of acceleration immeditly after taking out of neutral?
2. I notice water comes out of three areas of lower end. 1.peehole 2. withexhuast it appears out of prop center. 3. I notice water coming out of area of lower unit housing above the prop just about 8 inches rear of fluid flush vent screw where there are I believe 3 open slots on housing it runs off cavatation area of lower unit. My question is it appears some kind of oily fluid is coming out alittle with it. It does not appear to be mixed but seems the water is pulling it out with it. Could this be overflow of lower unit fluids from when I filled it? Is this normal?
4.Just before closing up cowling for day I noticed gas leak near fuel pumps area. So I hooked back up water jacket and started motor back up. It appears alittle fluid is slightly leaking where old hoses meet brass fittings. Are these available and are they easy to change???
5.other then that I only let it Idle and it seems to run very well. I also do notice a high pitch sound immediately after startor motor starts engine. Kinda like the old mopars on disengagement of startor. Hope that is normal.

Now, Just have to find a place to mount power tilt trim unit. Dont seem to have room anyhwhere under spashguard .
Thanks

Also the darn steering cable is not long enough to get to motor! It was mounted on transom before. Anyone know where they are affordable. West marine wants like 189.00 for cable and 179.00 for a cheap prop.
Thanks.
Tod
