Gotta a mid 70's 115hp jonny (the flat back design) that has a few problems. When I first bought it it would fire up as soon as I hit the key no problems at all. Put it in the water and as soon as I stab the trhottle it would just bog down without no raise in rpm's. It did start to jump on plane 1 time and that was it. Took it home started diagnosing aand found a couple off problems. Bottom carb was loose. Repaired it along with new gaskets and then I uncovered another problem the ends of the spark plug wires where shot. So now I am looking for a set of coils (all four). If any one has these please email me as I want to finish the restoration on this boat. But my main question is with the bottom carb being loose while I was checking it out for the first time is it possible that I may have caused any internal damage? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for a GREAT site.
1FASTLASER

That cylinder would've been running lean. I'd do a compression check. If that cylinder is within 10% of the others, it's fine. I wouldn't be too concerned about your short run with the carb loose, but how long was it loose up to that point?

You can get coils at your local John/Rude dealer. Don't mess with used. Can ya' post a model number so we can find out what year we are dealing with?

A Coil purchase is not necessary due to a faulty plug wire if you have the type coils whereas the wire leads to the inside of the coil.

The wire unscrews from a threaded terminal that exists within the coil. Unscrew it and install a new one which you can make up yourself.

As OBJ states/indicates.... OMC made a lot of engines in the 1970's, and there were differences, hence the model number is needed to pinpoint the year etc.

The bogging problem is usually due to fouled carburetors or/and a sticking timer base under the flywheel.

Had a similar problem with my '79. Turned out to be a weak fuel pump diaphragm.
