got a new to me motor, could a quick rundown,,,,

i just bought a 17.5 hydrosports VL 270 with a 150 mercury black max on it. it starts and seems to run great but i need to know what the gas/oil ratio is and maybe the year? would be nice, and ANY tips for a new owner (to a mercury motor) thanks

Does your boat have an oil system as seen under OIL INJECTION COMPONENTS in the parts List?

not that i seen, im going to look closer at the motor now, the guy said "somebody" told him to use a pint of outboard oil with 6 gallon of gas,,,,, thats why i asked here because i know i can get the "right" answers


should an 84 model have oil injection ?? thanks

As you see in the parts list they did but someone has removed it as many do and pre mixes the fuel oil. The ratio is 50:1

As for year, if you can identify tha parts I describe you will find a "build" date stamped in tha block. At tha base of no. 2 cylinder on tha BLOCK half where it splits with tha FRONT (crankcase) half there is a date stamp. It will be 1/8" numbers like this example, 09/30/84. It should be just behind tha advance timing arm. Might be covered with paint but its there. All V6's from '76 up have it..................
