I own an 83 glasstream and i love the sort of v shaped stern, I dont know why but ive always that it looked cool since i was a kid.

I was looking at it today and it occurred to me that i have no idea why its shaped like this or what it does?

Anybody got an idea about this?

Re: Got a question about stern shape

I'm not sure of what that boat looks like but if the tail tapers down towards the stern (making the beam narrower between the gunwales) it may be similar to the aerodynamic shape of a formula type race car. A tapered tail lessens the turbulence as it travels through a hydraulic fluid (both air & water are hydraulic fluids) thus lowering the drag. It'll go faster & use less fuel. But sometimes is just used to look cool!

I just looked at pix & yes, that would lessen the drag coefficient.

Probably done on a bass boat to eliminate the corners to drag the fish around rather then speed.
