got a quick head gasket question

1978 johnson 175, do i need sealant of some kind on the head gasket? still waiting on my good manual to come in, just working with a crappy downloadable version

i have never heard of sealant being needed, but have heard of it being used, with not so good results. if the head "s" are straight (not warped a bit) you will get a perfect seal with the right torque pattern and proper torque spec.

Always dry unless the shop manual directs otherwise.
