Hello fellow boaters, I have a 1983 Mercury 40hp motor. I rebuilt and cleaned the carb, Put new spark plugs in, removed fuel pump and replaced diaphragm and gaskets, new fuel hoses, fresh gas, new pump bulb from gas tank, and the motor will not stay running unless I continue to pump the bulb once every 5 seconds. It seems as if the gas is not circulating somewhere....Please, advise if possible.

Re: Got gas!!!

do you have any check valves in your fuel pump? If so, then one of them could be bad. Check vent on gas tank.

Did you change the filter in the canister?

Re: Got gas!!!

The can can I have only has a fuel gauge and a gas cap. I went to the local boat shop and the helped me put the new fuel pump kit together( assuming it must be right). There is no filter in the canister (?)....
