I finally got both of my new trim senders installed on my alpha one today thanks to many of you for the help, i rotated the trim limit switch till i hit 21 3/4, and locked it down, however, this may be a dumb question, when running in the water, how in the world can i lift the outdrive higher, cause it seems the limit switch is only letting the cylinders extend to 21 3/4 which isnt much and i can't imagine raising them more would hurt the ujoints, trailer switch works just fine, when the engine is running does a circuit or something open that will let me trim up more without blowing the ujoints? very confused now, im sure this is a dumb question for many, thanks in advance for the help.

That is what the trim limit switch is supposed to do. Limit the travel of the trim cylinders to 21 3/4". After that, you will damage the ujoints at higher rpms. Besides. You shouldn't need to trim any higher than that. It's actually to high for best operation.
Did you recheck that dimension after tightening it down??????

yes i did recheck and from hole to hole they are 21 3/4 for the alpha 1 i have as the manual says...i was using the trailer button for so long i got used to it being up quite a bit....but now with things correct, is just seems the cylinders do not move much at all using the bow up and down buttons...i havent checked the gauge yet but i cant imagine the cylinders will move enough to make the gauge go from high to low....at its highest point the ujoint to me seems like it is flexing just a bit above its level point....but if you say its correct then, its correct.

Not hole to hole, Center of hole to center of hole.

The trim has nothing to do with what the gauge says, you can set it with the other sender (opposite side as the trim limit switch) and make it show anything you want. IT also has to be adjusted.

sorry, i meant to say center of hole to center of hole on the cylinders...i did adjust the trim sender as the manual says, drive in full down postion and rotate sender till the gauge reads on the bottom....so if the cylinders only travel this small distance what do i do when i am in shallow waters? can i trim it up more with the trailer button while idling? i guess i need to know what my safe zone is before i blow the ujoints.

Sure. The trim is for use to adjust BOAT trim when cruising and running fast. Not idling thru shallow water.

How shallow of water? I have a 21' Wellcraft with the 5.7L and can safely navigate ( slowly ) through 27 inches of water, trimmed up but without touching the trailer button. If more than a few people are on I have the "heavyweights" sit near the bow.
