Got some mods done on the 470

Installed a 4" heat exchanger. Pretty straight forward install, hope it makes a huge difference in operating temps.
Got a temp gauge mounted and wired up, only had an idiot light before which told me nothing. Fast idle, gauge settled at 180*, I'll get it to the lake this weekend and do some wot runs and see what kind of temps I see.
Depth gauge and transducer is next but I have to fix my cobbled together temp gauge wiring, just wanted to get it working for now.
Been a long and expensive road since I first brought the boat home July 4th, but I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel :)

Cool
hope it works out for you have you done the alternator conversion yet.

I like the idea of the 470 lot of power and fairly light don't take up much room to bad they used an aluminium block to make a mess of things.

I do have an alternator to put in but the stator and voltage regulator are working great so I'll leave it that way for now.
Got on the water late this afternoon, easy cruising, temp gauge settled in the 180-190* range. WOT nudged it up a bit but under 200*, throttle back and the temp dropped fairly quickly. Very happy with the larger exchanger and a real temp gauge.

I do have a fuel pressure problem of some sort. After cruising for a half hour or so we stopped at a friends. Boat sat for about a half hour, fired right up but then shut down, cranked it a few times but wouldn't fire. Poured water on the fuel line because I've had vapor lock issues in the past, still wouldn't catch. Squeezed the primer bulb and no fuel, couple squeezes later fuel line is primed and it fired right up and ran great. I looked over the bulb and don't see any obvious cracks that would be letting in air. I guess a fuel pressure check is next on the list?

I kind of don't like those temperature readings, you should be in the 170 degree range (IMHO). I would double check the gauge with an IR thermometer or radiator cap thermometer. I am not sure having a primer bulb in the line is wise, and am pretty sure it is illegal. You may have a problem with your anti siphon valve.

I could of sworn in the shop manual it states the "normal" operating range of this motor was 180-200*.

It does, but I think most of us get a little nervous when we start to get up in that range LOL. I think most folks would like to see it in the 170 range, that is why I think it is a good idea to confirm your meter reading.
