I went to look at a 79 Thundercraft titan ss with a 79 50hp merc thunderbolt, I asked the seller to start it for me and it had no spark. Against my better judgment I paid the man and drug it home. Three hours of completely rewiring the whole outboard she runs like a dream. After all the wiring the seller called me to let me know he had some paper work on the boat, when I got to his house he gave me a pile of invoices. Turns out the powerhead, carbs, and lowerunit were all rebuilt 2 years ago than it was parked. To top all this off he gave me a new state sticker and another motor with merControls he had in his shed.
Id say I did good for 500$:D

Against my better judgment

That's usual way to score the killer deal. I have heard buyer that would work on the boat before handing over the money. All because they want to make sure they can fix it. Unfortunately, once they got the motor to run, seller naturally now want more money.

good find!!
