I picked up two 3/4 sheets of plywood yesterday I am planning on putting it on a tarp under the boat in the garage. One of the sheets is for a dog house so im hoping the top one will keep the bottom from warping too bad. Am I going to have to let it dry longer? I have a tornado heater I will heat the garage with when Im tearing into the transom and hull. I am guessing the wood won't be getting used for a month or two, college is more important right now. Would this work or do I need to put it in the basement with a fan on it?

your timeline is good.......but stacked on the garage floor the will take forever to dry........let the air get at them !

stand them on edge or if you lay them flat....put lots of 2x4s between them to keep them flat and it will also let the air get at em.

if you can......a fan or ceramic heater with small fan in it will do miracles

Hi Hydro,

I'd use stickers to keep the ply off the floor and separate from each other. Stickers are small strips of wood (3/4" by 3/4" by 4' for example) that let air circulate around the ply. Use enough to keep the ply from bowing, and then sticker a weight on top to keep all flat.

Good luck at college...

A good way to dry plywood (and I'm going to assume this is p/t ply because you want to dry it) is to nail it to a wall that is bare studs. Often garages and wood sheds do not have sheetrock on the walls. If you have a garage or shed like this just nail it to the bare studs. It will have air flow on both sides, and being nailed to the wall, will not warp as it dries.

I like this idea because it sounds like it will prevent a lot of warping. I dont think the area under my house is dry enough though, so mine is going back in the guest bedroom.

Screw the guests.
