Just seeing if it's just in this area or all over, customers call on Friday before the holiday to see if I can work on their boat? Then they get pissed at me when I tell them we're 2 weeks from being able to even look at it. Then they get more pissed when I mention they should have thought about it a month ago when they discovered they had a problem. Go figure. I hope everyone enjoys a Safe and Happy Fourth!

Sounds normal for around here also. We are always the bad guys for not dropping everything and working on their boat, or not having the part in stock after they wait till the last minute.

Thanks Don, just checking. I hate being the bad guy when someone neglects their investment and I tell them it will not be ready to use when they want it. Thanks

Re: Gotta Love Procrastinators

I see expensive lessons (mistakes) just about everyday working at the marina. When I bought my first boat 32 years ago (when I was 18) I WANTED to know EVERYTHING about my boat and engine. After it was out of warranty, I could not afford the dealers shop rate. I hung around the shop, read, asked questions, hmmmm no internet then lol. I can't tell you when a new boat owner has asked me any serious questions about maintaining his new toy. But wait til it won't run.....
I'm fortunate that I only work on i/o's 16 weeks a year. Could not take it year round. My hats off to those that do.

Re: Gotta Love Procrastinators

Why I bought a recorder and caller ID.

South Florida - phone call at home Saturday 6pm.
My boat won’t start - kids are hear from Ohio - will you come down now.
Question - When was the last time boat was started - Answer- 7 months -
Question - How long have you known kids were coming - Answer - 4 weeks
Question - Do you have a battery charger on boat - Answer - no.
Question - Is there any water in boat - Answer - only about a foot.
Question - How did you get my phone # - Answer - neighbor across canal.
Question - Don’t you have a regular mechanic. - Answer - yes, but I have
called him 8 times, and only get his recorder.
I heard this same basic story twice a month for 15 years.

Re: Gotta Love Procrastinators

Just got one in yesterday. Customer bought an I/O last year and didn't winterize it. Went to use it for the weekend and water water everywhere. Along with a lot of foamy oil. You'd think they'd at least try it before the last minute, but NO!

When such comes in, it's always the same three questions.
Isn't it coveredd under warranty?
How about insurance?
Can I sue the guy that sold it to me for not telling me?
I swear it's like every one of them reads from the same script.

Many boaters have seen this sign hanging in a shop that says:

An emergency on your part does not necessarily constitute an emergency on our part
