Just did a ton of repairs to a 97 Yamaha 80 that I picked up for next to nothing. By referencing and searching this forum I was able to:
Replace the thermostat and pressure release.
Fix broken bolts.
Replace T/T motor without touching a motor mount bolt.
Fill and purge T/T
Fix broken bolts.
Replace broken water tube (which required an extensive disassembly)
Fix broken bolts (but not the powerhead bolts).
Clean and service carburetors.
Service lower unit.
Did I mention broken bolts?
Engine is running fine. The repairs were a lot of fun and quite an education. Reapairing outboards is not tough if your oxy-acetylene torch is your wrench of choice. Once I learned to heat-PB Blaster-hold tension while cooling-don't force anything-repeat as necessary, i quit breaking bolts.
