I have a lawerance HTO-C and mapcreate 6. The software seems to be very hard to use and not user friendly.

What does everyone have and with what software for there computer to map locations and routes on the water then put them on there GPS?

Is Garmin any better? Is there software for the computer and is it easy to use?
Thanks

Garmin is, if nothing else, easy to use. They have all kinds of software available depending on what you're using it for. Personally I have had poor luck with Garmin GPS units, but I seem to be an aberrancy. Most folks love their Garmins and would go with no other.

Re: GPS Help.

I have had 4 Garmins including my 276C. The Mapsource software is pretty user friendly and you can get pretty much anything you want. I am quite happy with the unit and with the Mapsource software.

I did try one other brand. After three had croaked they agreed to refund my bux instead of a fourth unit. It was not a Lowrance, by the way.

Re: GPS Help.

I assume you have a Lowrance I Finder H2O C. If so take your unit in to a store that sell Garmin GPSMAP 76 C and compare displays and you will be very happy.

Both Garmin and Lowrance are great units. If your new to GPS expect it to take 2 weeks to a month to get set up how you want it and understand it all. Even then likely will try different modes for up to 1 year.

Either unit if you want you can buy preloaded maps.
Also before you load the new maps and load a bunch of waypoints check your unit and make sure it has the most current FIRMWEAR. Many unit when you update the firmware it will wipe out all your Waypoints and Routes

I do not know it this is common but here the best Lowrance, Garmin, and Humming dealer will help you load what you want. Even before your buy he will get the CD's and walk you thru making your Maps. Never hurts to go and ask them for help.

Re: GPS Help.

What kind of problems are you having with your Lowrance
H2O?
I just bought one and while it's not easy, I seem to be getting the hang of using mine so far. I created one map already of my general home area including my hunting and fishing grounds.

Got any particular issues with the software? Maybe I can help.

Re: GPS Help.

I have to qualify my remarks about my Garmins.

The mapsource software is easy and user friendly but it takes time to learn how to best use the unit and the software.

Get a 10 year old to read the manual. Then He/she can explain it to you. My grandbuddies helped me out a lot. :)
