OK, I just recieved my Lowrance 334c with internal GPS. I took the unit outside (open sky) and fired the unit up. I have to turn-off the "GPS Simulator" and "Initialize GPS" before I get a positions. The unit will lock-on for a minute aand then get kicked off. The unit will then go to back to simulation mode and I have to repeat the process.

Unfortunately, Lowrance support is closed for the Holiday so I cannot get help from them. I was hoping to install the device tomorrow will I have some time off from work. I've visitied the Lowrance site nd read the FAQ, it suggested a few things. Has anyone out there experienced this problem?

Does that unit have a reset button? Before you push it make sure it won't permanently erase any maps or data you have installed unless you can re-install it. That should fix the problem.

I would make sure you have a solid 12 volts on the power lead and a good ground. Turn off the transducer by putting in GPS only mode. Understand all GPS antennas are directional so hold the unit in a normal mounting position.

The unit needs to be outside with a clear veiw of the sky, not under a pourch or trees.

Please report back with the answer when you find it.

I would check the software verison and update it if its not the new one
How to see if your LMS-334C iGPS is already using version 1.3.0 software:

1. Press the MENU button twice on your LMS-334C iGPS.
2. Select
3. SYSTEM SETUP. Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
4. The software version for your unit is located under the line that says "LMS-334C iGPS" (ex. "Version 1.3.0").
5. If your version is the same version listed above, there is no need to download the software.

Many times units on the shelf have early verisons of the software that has been updated to solve minor problems

I 'm pretty sure you have to plug in both the transducers first. The reason for this is that if the unit does not detect the transducers, it automatically goes into the simulator mode.

The way to tell is that you can try to initialize the GPS, which will probably work ok, then shortly thereafter, it will switch the GPS off and go into the simulate mode. It will do this consistantly, because it is programmed to do that!

That is the way it works on my LMS 339c. I'll bet it is the same for your's/

If I recall your previous posts, this unit that you bought was an open box unit. It could very well be that the original purchaser had the same problem and returned the unit. You may want to do the same thing.

Thanks Drowned Rat,
After I let the unit set for approx 20 minutes, it acquired the satellites and now apprears to work just fine. Of course, I didn't get to play with it long today--I think I blew my motor:'(.

Bruceb58, I wasn't able to get the demo unit. GANDER Mtn couldn't find the transducer, so I ordered the unit from another Gander Mtn store. I signed up for the credit card and got %10 percent off. Therefore, I was able to get a brand new unit for $500. -- The money I saved can go to help rebuild my motor :'(.
