I posted a question on the non boating technical forum and it appears to have been zapped. It was titled Let your fingers do the walking... Looking for info on the purchase and application of a GPS system to guage speed of a water borne vessel.

Re: GPS question (wrong pew)

I think they all will do that. I use a Garmin 176C GPS and an Impulse Loran and both will tell me the speed I am travelling. I have 2 speed wheels on my boat, the Garmin speed/Impulse Speed are the same and the Impulse speed wheel is close, but I use in salt water and you have to take into account the tide/water movement. I also have an Eagle Seafinder DF 480 and the speed wheel sucks, at 30-32 MPH it will read 64-65 MPH. Does ok at slow speeds for trolling. I bought it because I wanted something w/BIG letters, which the Impulse does not have, nor can it be adjusted.Just my dime's worth :)

A GPS is an electronic device, TS. Look in Electric and Electronics.
