Grand Am Question

I finally had to take the Dodge Intrepid to the shop to have the waterpump/timing belt changed. With the DOHC/3.5, it requires special tools to keep the cams in alignment. They quoted 4.25 hrs, took 6.5, but was charged for the quote. Total $452.

Anyway now my sons 91 Grand Am (which was a good fixer upper at the time). I swear this car is like a domino game. First it had a bad ignition pack, then stupid me let the jack slip off onto the oil pan, (big hole!),and then the heater core leaked. After changing that, added coolant, son started car and started to give it a little gas. Engine quit.. went to start again and this time it didn't start and sounded bad. Then noticed that the drive off the end of the cam was not turning the power steering pump, then saw coolant leaking between head and block. Checked oil and it has signs of water. Time for new engine!

Here is my question, will any other engines bolt up to the tranny of this car? Right now it has the Quad 4, 2.3 ltr. Checked with the wrecking yards locally and they tell me that they are hard to find. Mean while teenage son is impatient to drive. Wife won't let him drive her Intrepid and I agree with her.

Can anyone shed some light here? Thanks.....

Re: Grand Am Question

Well number one as you might know by now, is not to buy the quad4 in any GM car. You can check at the junk yards and they can tell you what will match up. Lucky you if a V-6 would, but thats what I would do. The junk yards around here have a cross over book that tells them what will fit what.
Good luck.
