You can try bleach. I would suggest you stop playing OO spy games with the boat though.

If you are going after lunker bass in the south....you need to be in the grass. So the question still is..how do you get old grass stains out of the paint?

Laughing my a$$ off at the 2 replies! :D

Ron, there are various hull cleaners around that are designed for the scum line or water stains.

What kind of boat, aluminum, glass or wood?

Depending on how long the stains have set there, it may be pretty tough to get them out (think you figured that out already...)

Re: grass stains

Could or would it be possiblee to compound out the stains? That 3m rubbing compound is pretty agressive I understand.

Re: grass stains

I'm wondering if its actually grass stains, and not some kind of alge stain from sitting in the water for an extended period of time that has actually penetrated the finish. I know I have seen many boats that are sitting in slips with the worst looking bottoms. I just cant imagine cruising thru the grass for bass will leave grass stains that tough. I've never had lake vegetation leave a stain on my boat. Must have a better grade of grass in Tenn. than in So. Cali.

Re: grass stains

Starbrite Hull Cleaner from the marine center will get rid of the stains without damaging the gelcoat. Dekswood deck cleaner from the home center is the same chemical (oxalic acid) and will work also. Bleach won't work, neither will rubbing compound, and rubbing compound removes the surface of the gelcoat. You will need to rewax after using the hull cleaner.

Buy the cheapest liquid toilet bowl cleaner from Wally world. It will work almost as fast as the best cleaner available(on-off bottom cleaner)

Re: grass stains

have you tried on/off? if that doesn't take it off, i'm thinking you need to break out the compound.
