Last night, in my infinite wisdom, as I was lubricating the various places on my '77 Evinrude 85hp, I broke off one of the grease fittings that go along the tilt shaft near the steering "shaft" (for lack of a better word).

Are these fittings hard to find and/or replace?

Also, How do I get some grease into the steering tube to make sure it's moving as smoothly as possible.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Grease Fitting Replacement

You should be able to use an easy-out to remove the broken part. Take it to your local auto store and get a replacement. As for the steering tube, I extend mine as far as possible, clean it, and wipe it with what ever lube I have. I guess you should use a graphite base lube. Never really thought about it. Hey, Joe R, what is recommended for these things?
