I was wondering if I could use marine grease to lube my wheel bearings. I am in the process of rebuilding the brakes on my trailer, and since I use the grease on my outdrive, I was hoping I could use it on the bearings. That way I would only have to keep one kind of lube on board.

Use wheel bearing brease.

Why would you keep wheel bearing grease on board anyways? Pack them correctly and forget them for a year. The only thing that comes of continually pumping grease into the trailer bearings is blown seals.

It is OK with me if you use marine grease. I use it for everything . . . wheel bearings, u-joints, gimbally bearing, engine coupler, surge brake whatzits, trailer coupler & ball thingy, trailer electrical connector, etc.

Here we go... another oil, I mean grease, thread in the works. So here it is, I use the "green grease" on everything on the trailer, boat, and my truck. Haven't had any issues :)

Bingo! At the landing I usually am shocked how many people's trailers have grease caked on the inside of the wheel from being overfilled and blowing the rear seal out.

I even use it on my golf cart as it has been known to go in the water, it doesn't float though, I checked.

So what grease should I use on my surge brake actuator to make sure I get the greatest towing capacity? Will a slipperier/hydrophobic grease prevent excessive weight transfer to my tow hitch?

I've no comment on the grease type.

However, I wouldn't OVER grease them. I was pulling my enclosed motor cycle trailer, with electric brakes, to Florida and the darn thing started jumping sideways at low speeds when I applied the brakes. Pulled drums/hubs, turned out there was grease on the shoes on one side, not good. I had to unplug the controller when traveling thru towns till I got it fixed.

Well, if you leave now you should be able to make the Arkansas get together. I know your trailer is ready to rock because you recently fixed the brakes, although you might run out of gas on the bridge..........

My dad always said beware of men who hang around trailers.

Is the Arkansas meet just for trailers........
