My wife and I (both retired) bought our first boat ('06 Larson SEI 180LX) while we were in Florida last winter. We used it a few times in the intercoastal waters around Ft Myers and brought it home for the summer. We have truly enjoyed it this summer and are getting more comfortable with the whole boat thing. This forum is a phenomenal resource.

Anyway yesterday it was just the two of us and we went out on Lake St Clair and headed to an area known as the sand bar where levels are 2.5 to 3.0 ft. We anchored, swam, had a great picnic lunch and enjoyed the beautiful day!!

Next outing will be our first "destination trip". We are going to go to a marina in Belle River ON which supposedly has a very good restaurant. Going to feel like "real" boaters if we a) find it b) tie up without looking like complete newbies c) find our way back!!!

Again thnks to all the knowledgeable boaters on this forum.

Well, I think if you accomplish A then C is a gimme. If you completely blow B, it will still be a great day for you and your wife. Not to mention that all real boaters make mistakes now and then.

P.S. Just don't tell them I told you though:D

Happy boating

Re: Great Day On The Water

It appears you need a little more "coaching."

Rule #1. Don't give away too much info on your destination until AFTER the trip. That way if you end up at as different restaurant, that was where you were heading all along (or the wait was too long at the projected restaurant destination).

Rule #2. If you blow the landing, don't acknowledge it here on the boards, unless it is under SHT and it is something you saw someone else do! :p

Rule #3. If you can make it one way, just reverse the directions, and if you end up somewhere else, well, you really wanted a "special night out" with your lovely bride, so all is good! ;)

There, now you are all set for your destination trip. Good luck and have fun! :D
