Just picked up a Radio Shack laser thermometer, these things make it very easy to check important things like manifold/exhaust tube temps, verify proper thermostat operation, etc. I found that my new manifolds run at 115-118* idling through the channel, and 135* or so after running on plane for a while. The hottest part of the engine was the part of the intake manifold where the thermo housing is bolted to it, this came in at 155*. This boat has a 160* stat, and runs from 160-170 usually....
