Replacing foam underneath boat deck. Is it wise to use Great Stuff foam in place of regular styrofoam?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!. You need to use the two part foam. The great stuff from what I have read is not closed cell foam. Plus it will cost you a fortune to use the great stuff.

Thanks Jay. I have the 2 part foam, but wanted to see if "great stuff" would be a possible avenue for the hard to reach areas. I'll stick with regular styrofoam.

Welcome to iboats.

2 part foam will do the job very nicely. What type of hull are you working on? There are substitutes that are used safely but it really depends on the boat hull and hull material. What happened to the old foam? AND Why??? ;)

I was curious on the same thing. I was going to put it under the stringer in my keel since theres like a 1 inch gap to the glass below. I'm putting foam sheeting back under the deck.

Re: Great Stuff (foam filler)

It's a 15' Terry Bass (1978). It's an old boat that I bought second hand and runs good. It just needs a little repairing due to soft decking. I torn out the old decking and discovered that it had been repaired once before (about 2x4 ft. section). It's funny about the original foam that was manufactured with the boat. When I pulled the entire floor out I noticed if had water soaked into the foam. The foam looked like the great stuff foam. It's funny because when I would go fishing, I could notice the boat would lean to the side that has the old foam (kind of like water would soak into the foam and just sit there. It made the boat water heavy. The repaired side was higher while in the water. I'm going to repair using the 2part foam and had torn out the old foam from the decking area. Thanks for the feedback.
