I'd probably just pry the cap that's on there and bring it to the trailer store. Then get a bearing buddy that would fit. There's different sizes.

I'm not sure if it's the best way, but I'd have a hammer, rubber mallet and hammer around to try and get it off.

If you want an easier way, buy a 12" or so section of metal plumbing pipe that will slip over the dust cap. Now, you can just wiggle it off or hit it lightly at the free end with a hammer without damaging it.

BTW: "Bearing Buddy?" is a brand name for one brand of trailer bearing protector, There are three or four other companies making bearing protectors.

If you want to save the cap, just be gentle. Slip the screwdriver between the cap and the hub, and tap the screwdriver in. Do this in a few places around the circumference of the cap and it will pop off. If you are replacing the cap, follow the same procedure, with a little more force. Try not to pry too hard against the hub as you don't want to ding up that surface. They usually come off pretty easy.
