Its 89 23 ft cruiser with 5.7 mercruiser an cobra outdrive. If u push into forward gear it will grind till u pill it back to neutral, but if u slam it into gear like wide open throttle goes in with no grind just have to pull it back super fast for idle speed!
When going to reverse motor starts to stumble. Motor idles around 500 rpm it will go into reverse an move very very slow at that rpm but try an throttle say to 600 + it stalls. I've looked an on the shift cable, the kill switch stays activated when in reverse causeing the motor to stall.

Had shop fix it, well they put a shift cable on it an put it back together but after there second time around on correction still does the same thing??? What's the deal here anyone, to me sounds like it just needs to be adjusted???
Could it be something else?

You can't have a Mercruiser and a Cobra. Cobra is a OMC product.

It's possible that you could have a Mercruiser engine. (just a chevy V-8)

If you have a Cobra stern drive then it's a Cobra.....period.

YOU have a serious shift cable mis-adjustment. YOU need to fix it pronto or you WILL destroy the clutch dogs and gears and will have to have it rebuilt.

If you took it to a professional to get it repaired or adjusted, they screwed it up. I would not take it back to them unless they can guarantee proper operation and will repair or replace it when it blows.

Print the info from this site http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/index.html

Then either follow the advice or have the "professional" follow it!

Cheers,

Rick
