Grinding with a belt sander

I am looking to speed up the grinding to prep a hull for new glass. I have allot to do. I have been using a 4 1/2" grinder and flapper discs but it is kind of slow. I have a larger grinder, 6" i think, but it hate using it.
Has anyone tried a belt sander? I do not want to invest in one if it is not faster than the little grinder.

Don't bother with a belt sander.

I've always found the flapper type discs to be slower than a plain single disc and size matters, you need to go bigger if you want speed.

24 or 36 grit and better quality discs will cut faster and last longer.

To remove fiberglass, wood, metal, etc...... get you one of these animals.
My favorite tool. "THE ERASER" 7" fiber disc in 36 or 50 grit will remove
material real fast, to fast if not careful.

Yep That's the one. I bought one like kelmar's a few years ago on another project. The thing is so heavy its like grinding with a 1" impact. Well, adapt or die as they say. Guess I will have to get it out and learn to use it. Thanks guys. I guess the belt sander was wishful thinking. Did I mention I hate dust? Woopee!

Exceptional Work on the Bayliner kelmar BTW! Really nice woodwork. A skill set I have yet to master. Got some advice on refinishing a mahogany bulkhead?

I must say the work on the Bayliner is incredible!

I used a grinder with flapper disc for 80% of my work... I did purchase a cheap belt sander 3 x 21" and found it very useful on large flat areas.

I also hate dust!

I plan on cleaning dust and debris form my garage this weekend...
