Hi,

I recently removed the electrical components from a Johnson 15 pull start and not that I'm replacing them do not recall exactly where to ground the powerpack and coils. I'm pretty sure they wree on the bottom of the exhaust and bypass covers but don't know if makes a big difference.

Also, I found an old severed wire that apparently is supposed to ground the midsection to the tilt assembly. Anyone know what this is for and how important it is? Thanks for any advice.

The sages and the wizards must be taking the day off. Ground is ground is ground, so find a convenient screw and ground it there. The severed wire could be a bonding jumper. It helps prevent electrolysis and corrosion.

That sounds correct to me....make sure the ground used is cleaned and shiny, no paint, also the terminal end is good and clean. The jumper
should indeed be there to ground the lower unit against electrolysis(corrosion) and same applies to it(clean). You want to make sure the threads aren't covered in powder(if in saltwater) when you remove bolt, or you may have less than great ground, as the gaskets won't allow the entire cover to be grounded except through the bolt threads ya know.
