Grounding a non-metal tank is not necessary, however, ground the fuel fill fitting if metal, and ground the fuel level sender, if you want it to work.

Thanks Chirs. So, there are two wires coming out of the sender of my new tank (red and black). I am going to tie these into the wires that come from my gauge. Are you saying I need to run a third wire from the metal part of my fuel fill fitting (where you put the nozzle into the boat) to ground (I was planning on using that metal plate on top of my tank)?

I'm assuming when you say "fuel fill fitting", that you mean that actual part that the nozzle goes into the boat and not the inlet part where the hose goes on at the tank (because that part is plastic just like the tank)...?

And also, any suggestions on how to ground this easily? It was a PITA to get that hose on the tank. Unfortunately, I realized after....that I probably need to ground it and cant reach the fill fitting. But, regardless....how is this done normally? Do you have to somehow wrap the wire around the metal fitting and then slide the hose on?

That's for filling an on-board water tank , I think the fuel ones are metal and have ground hookups. It usually has to be USCG approved as well.

Gas fill fittings do come in plastic.

To ground a metal tank fitting, I put a ring terminal on the ground wire and place it under the nut holding the fitting to the boat.

The gas gauge sender should have the black wire grounded, and the pink (red?) wire connected to the sender connection on the gauge.
