Groung the battery

can I ground the battery on my jon boat by simply attaching a wire to the negative post and attaching a screw to the aluminum seat and connecting a wire between the 2?

yeah that would do it, but why woul dyou want to? all you need to do is connect your - wires to the battery ground and they are grounded. No other grounds are needed as far as i know.

Stray electrical current running through the hull of an aluminum boat will cause electrolysis (corrosion caused by electricity). You will enable that by making the hull of your boat a common ground by connecting the battery ground to it. Electrically speaking, it will work though.

Agent 37, I don't want to have the whole boat conducting electricity.
I have a t/m, 2 fish finders, bow and stern lights, live well, and solar panel running on the battery. Do I need to ground?

Each and every appliance should have it's own ground wire to a buss or directly to the battery, you do not (and should not) need to ground the battery to the hull.

BTW, unless the motor is isolated from the hull, the battery is already grounded to the hull.
