No boating for me this weekend.

I got rear ended sitting at a light in my Explorer, by a Volvo.

Light turned green, people went, people stopped for person turning right, with pedestrian in crosswalk.

This guy wasnt even paying attention.

I had time to look behind me, see the whole front end of a Volvo in my mirror, so he was still 15 feet behind me, go OH Oh, wife goes HUH? Take my foot off the brake to lessen the impact, BAM,

I goes right over my reciever into my bumper.
pushes it in, wife gets whiplash.

So, taking my Explorer in Weds to have it repaired, dont think it will be done in 3 days, supposed to be nice this weekend too.

No visible damage to Volvo, except where my electrical plug bracket gouged his bumper. If i had my hitch on the back it would have impaled his car, sigh.

Yeah, that is infuriating. Had same thing happen to me by woman putting on makeup. Even worse, you're the one who has to go to all the trouble of getting your car fixed and you're lucky if they have insurance. I keep my heavy duty trailer hitch mounted on my truck all the time now after the second rear-ending. I figure it gives me a better shot at minimizing damage to my truck because of someone else's carelessness.

He had full insurance and its paying all the damages etc. Gotta hand it to Volvo though, no damage from a 15-20 mph collision, his airbags didnt even go off. Dont know what kind of Volvo, 4 dr, 2000's model though.

Yeah, i think i am going to put my hitch back on, it sticks out about a foot when attached, i usually take it off, cause i am always wrecking my shins getting stuff out of the back, or walking around the rear with it on.

You just can't see the damage to the Volvo's front bumper impact cushion and reinforcement bar. But there is damage to it. Although the rear bumpers of Explorers are particulary wimpy, and they will show a lot more damage than the car that hits them.
If you live in Chicago, don't leave your receiver in, it's illegal.

Did you get your explorer back? This weekend was not fabulous but Sunday did clear up in the afternoon. Make sure the shop doing the work checks your hitch for damage as well as the vehicle. Hope to see you on the water

Happened to me today in my Ranger. Female bumped into me while I was stopped waiting for traffic. I had my hitch on and received no damage. She had a small ding in her bumper where she hit my ball hitch.

I wonder if he was using the phone. Since its his fault dont let his insurance company NOT supply you with another vehicle to use for the same purpose as yours while yours is out of use.Thank GOD you werent hurt because alot of times your medical bills fall 100% on you until the claim is settled. Can take up to 3 years before they buy you the first bandaid....If you cant afford to pay cash or let your medical coverage pay their part you end up with no case because you cant show where you spent money on med care.No proof of medical bills means no proof your were hurt even though you could have been. Sorry to stray from your main topic. If you want to punish the guy go and get some follow up medical exam to be sure you didnt have an injury and send the BILL to his insurance company .This will make his insurance jump about 30% for 3 years...Hey he needs to be taught a lesson. Please tell me you havent already been pressured to sign off on the claim just to get your car fixed. If so you were ripped and its an old trick insurance companys use to avoid paying you anything.

Yes, absolutely, take the most adversarial stance you can, that will make you the most money in the end. Be sure to utter the phrase "This is all your fault, not mine". Claim adjusters love that and will beg to write you a check.
