My 22 yr old girl in college, and works P/T and F/T when not in s chool ,400 mi south, they've been flying up for 12-13 yrs, but I get a call, with 12 days notice(as opposed to 3 weeks) and a one way is gonna run me $180.00 and she stays 3 days???? Um I think not. I can usually get round trip WITH ADVANCE NOTICE for $110.
This kid has never given me a problem ever, love her to tears, but I think I have to say NO, and maybe have HER schedule AFFORDABLE flights! No one is that "busy" that they cant answer a text or email with vacation dates in advance...
Hate to say no, but really think I have to put my foot down.....
Any suggestions???

I cut my kids a lot of slack because they're both decent and hard-working like your daughter. Their inability to look beyond today drives me nuts, too. I'd probably offer to split it with her. Love to see you, kid, but snap decisions usually have consequences. Nothing wrong with impetuous behavior once in awhile as long as you're willing to pay the cost.

Train, bus or drive don't require advance notice and usually treat passengers as though they are customers, not cattle.

Time to buy a bus ticket. 1/2 the cost.

Before you say no, better find out if your usual $110 trip is even valid right now. Prices have sky rocketed since oil prices went up.

Long Beach to Oakland. Even going out a month, your still looking at $160 when all is said and done

Hate to be the "party pooper" but I guess I'm horrible at spoiling mine. If my son called today and said, "I've got 3 days off but I'd need to fly out tomorrow", then I'd find a way to buy the ticket. She'll get more appreciative of scheduling and budgeting as she ages, but the time can never be regained. Then again, I'm the dad who's wife says I can't go "shopping" with Mother and Daughter anymore. Today we went to find my daughter a dining room table at a thrift store that she was paying for herself. What happened? Daddy bought her a new one. I'm way too easy. Just my worthless 2cents.

Other than the fact that you misplaced the post as it should've been in the, "Tell the biggest 'fish stories" thread, it's perfectly fine.

I know what you mean. It seems we became more responsible at a younger age. Still, my son asked for air ticket home from Dallas for July 4 and I gave him my credit card number. I just want to see him.

Split the cost with her and while she is in town have a father/daughter talk about good planing and a savings account to cover unexpected costs. It's hard cutting a kid off compleatly, esspecially if they're a good one, but there does come a time when they gotta stand on their own 2 feet and not expect mommy and daddy to be there to help out. We're not going to live forever.

I give my 2 poptart daughters **k a year to help them out. :)

I rather give it to them now and to see how much I'm helping them.

Plus its tax free to them per year. :)

Where I'm going you don't need any money.

Daughter just got hung up for over a week by AmTrak, Empire Builder. Luckily my boss happened to be within 400 miles of her in Montana, and I got her bussed to his location, and he delivered her to my door. Boss gained a driver and conversation. She just showed up here at 6 this morning. instead of Thursday morning if the train was on time, which never happens.

It was looking like the flood in Dakota, scheduling problems, yada, yada, yada Were going to cost her a well deserved vacation visit to ma's house.
