Guage wiring

I'm rewiring the gauges on by boat. I understand that the purple wire is a switched hot wire that goes the the ignition post on each gauge. What I don't understand is why there is a purple wire on my harness going back to the engine. What does it do and where do I connect it? It's a 100 hp 1988 Mercury ouboard, if that helps.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.

Re: Guage wiring

The purple lead going back to the engine serves the same purpose as the one on the dash. It supplies switched power to the warning module or other components that require switched power. It should be connected to the keyswitch along with the wire going to the gauges.

Hope this helps!

That's right, on my 75HP 3cyl the purple wire goes from ignition to the oil warning module, and on my 850 4cyl it runs to the auto blend.
