Guess the part

Boat is equipped with a 4.3L mercruiser s/n 0L011415
Found this in the back of the engine bay today after a nice day on the water yesterday. Looks like its been re-welded (very poorly) before. Anybody know what this could be ? Thanks

That looks like the lower part of the inner transom plate. Not good.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... As noted, that's the bottom of the inner transom plate,.....
When broken like that, it's usually a sign of a rotten transom,....

Thanks for the replys guys. Looks really bad. Is a Rotten transom fixable?
as I understand it, just to replace the inner plate I’d have to pull engine and whole drive, gimble housing etc…and then find a rotten transom :/

Ayuh,.... It's fixable, but it's a very in-depth repair, 'n a good place to learn how to fiberglass,.....

most everything on a boat is repairable, depends on how in depth you want to go

as stated, you are best off to pull the drive, motor and gimbal housing/inner plate and clean/inspect

pull the drive
pull the motor
remove the interior
build a cradle
pull the cap
wear a tyvek suit
fire up the saws

So, I'm thinking how does the inside flange of the transom assembly break like that
Maybe have a look at the outside of the transom assembly . . .
I assume you will be/are getting water into the boat.

I just changed out my Trans assmbly, after doing that, I would be thinking you would have water leaking in the bilge for sure

Looking at that I'm guessing electrolysis had a hand in that. I'd be willing to also bet the transom mount is probably sheite as well
