Guide-on help/advice please

Looking to add guide-ons to my bunk trailer. 18' glass boat weighing in 3300 lbs or so. Pole guide-ons seem to give you the additional sight advantage where you can see them as you're maneuvering but looking at them in catalogs and sites they sure don't seem like they'd be very strong or durable. Wouldn't a heavy boat just plow them over? Anyone have any experience with these? Which brands/models are stronger?

How about the other choices like side bunk and rollers?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

These are my homemade guide ons. they work great, if the boat hits them just helps to guide it onto the trailer.

The post type guide on's usually have a 2x2" galvanized box tube that extends a few feet up into the tube. The tubes flex a bit but I doubt your ever going to bend/break one. The straight PVC tube type have the added advantage of centering the boat at the rail , to the same degree, regardless of trailer depth. I would own no others.

For easy loading, especially with river currents, I recommend a set of these rear guide rollers.

I had a set on my Montauk 17 and installed them on my Outrage 17. In launching on to the Piscatisqua and Merrimack Rivers, both have a wicked tidal current (4-6 kts), it is a one person job.

Here is a photo of them installed.

Pole guides have too much flex.

Not unless your wife drives directly into one of them...trust me, I know.:)

They are pretty strong though. Definitely a big help when putting the trailer back into the water.
