I did it. I bought the mini 14 today. Bought 500 rds and a 30 round mag to go with it. Man what fun that baby is. It was close to dark when I got to shoot it be that just made the muzzle flash so much better. Thanks for the help in my decision.

Re: Gun update

congrats Ken. Check out Brownells for all kinds of mini 14 stuff. Get their catalog as well. I can spend hours paging through it. Some guys build a very accurate race gun based on the mini 14.

web page

Don't ya love the way the bolt handle slaps back when you pull the trigger?

The rear peep site takes some getting used to. Ya, the bolt flying back is a little noisy too. Now I want the AC556, which is the full auto version. I emptied a 30 rd clip as fast as I could, kept it in a pie plate size area at about 15 yards, took about 5 seconds, that was the fun part.

That's why I put a 2-7x scope on my ranch rifle. Without a lot of trying the groups shrank to about 1 1/2" at 100 yds.
I really do like the bolt noise though.

Ive always wanted one of those too, I would want the ranch model, Just had a gun show here , but was busy and couldnt go. Probably for the best as I may have to take my boat to the dealer to figure out whats wrong, seems to have the guys here stumped!

Re: Gun update

Mine is the ranch model also. I will eventually put a scope on it. I know it sounds stupid but I will use the kit that goes on the earlier guns. With the sidemount I can leave the sights up, most of the time I prefer those.
