After 22 years my Mako 161 flats is showing some wear. Any idea what it takes to fix this? Both sides showing the same condition. Rub rail feels firmly in place. Any advice is appreciated. Will likely have to pay a shop to fix but want to know what I should expect. Thanks.

Hulls flex, and that cap has multiple sections and it doesn't look like the they're bonded together, at least not anymore. You would need to look underneath that area and see what it looks like. Could also have some waterlogged foam that will increase the weight and cause more flex.

I agree. Your hull is a totally foam filled hull and if, as ondarvr suggests, the foam has been compromised and is waterlogged you might have more issues below decks. It's impossible to give you any kind of knowledgeable estimate on repairs without being able to SEE what's going on under the cap. However, Looking at the opposite side, it appears this cap is more or less Free floating and is NOT really supported by any structure. Is this correct?

Thank you both for replying. Yes, that's correct, those sections have nothing below except rod holders. I will get a photo or two beneath, when the sun comes up.
